Search Console
Why Google Search Console shows zero impressions
Search Console reports data from Google results, not all website visits. A website can receive traffic from social media or ads and still show zero impressions in the Performance report.
The clean approach is to check the data setup first. Only then should you look for technical SEO problems.
First check the right property
Search Console can use a domain property for the whole domain or a URL-prefix property for one exact address. If you inspect `https://zarazwsieci.pl/` but data is collected in the domain property, the report may look different.
Also check `https`, `www`, non-www and subdomains. The report can show zeros if the selected property does not match the deployed version of the website.
- compare domain and URL-prefix properties
- check https, www and subdomains
- make sure the report matches the live address
Remove filters and widen the date range
A common reason for zeros is an active filter. The report may be filtered by query, page, country, device or search type, so it shows only a slice of the data.
Start with the last 3 months and remove filters. If the website was recently changed, compare older and newer ranges. Data from the last few hours or last day can be incomplete.
- remove query and page filters
- use a longer date range
- check search type if needed
Check whether key URLs are indexed
Use the URL inspection tool and indexing reports to check whether Google knows the important pages. If a URL is not indexed, it cannot receive organic impressions.
Do not check only the homepage. Inspect the offer page, SEO page, audit page, service-scope page and at least one service page. If key URLs are missing from the index, the issue is indexing, not the Performance report itself.
- inspect homepage and key pages
- use URL inspection
- compare indexing status with the sitemap
Review sitemap, robots and canonicals
The sitemap should include URLs that should appear in Google. Robots.txt should not block important paths. Canonical tags should point to the correct live URL, not a random or old version.
If a canonical points elsewhere, Google may treat another URL as the main one. Then you may be checking one page while signals are assigned to a different address.
- sitemap contains important URLs
- robots does not block the site
- canonical points to the right address
- redirects are intentional
When zero impressions are normal
Zeros can be normal when the website is new, recently migrated, has very little content, works in a niche with almost no searches or has just been submitted for indexing. Google needs time to discover URLs, evaluate content and show the site.
It becomes a problem when the site has been live for a while, key URLs are indexed, sitemap is correct and there are still no impressions for a longer period. Then you need to review content, intent, competition and technical setup.
- new websites can be delayed
- no search demand can also produce zeros
- long-term zeros need a deeper check
What to fix if zeros stay for longer
First make sure Google can see the page content. Then check whether titles and headings clearly describe the offer. Next, review whether the page answers real customer questions instead of only describing the company in general terms.
Only after that does it make sense to add more content. If the base is weak, publishing more articles will not fix the core issue.
- visible HTML content
- specific titles and headings
- service pages answering real questions
- internal links to important URLs
Questions
Do zero impressions mean a Google penalty?
No. First check the GSC property, filters, date range, sitemap and indexing. A penalty is one of the less common reasons.
Does Search Console data appear immediately?
Not always. Reports can be delayed, and a new website may need time before it appears for queries.
Can a page be indexed and still have zero impressions?
Yes. Indexing means Google knows the URL. Impressions appear only when the page is shown to a user in search results.
What should I check first?
Remove filters in the Performance report, use a longer date range and inspect key URLs with the URL inspection tool.
